Narrative:
Terminal radar was OTS at psp. We were given the cathedral 7 departure. I looked at the SID and saw that it had our transition to pmd, so I was thinking that this was our normal SID and routing to sfo via pmd. However, the SID calls for us to proceed to psp then out the 104 degree radial to emrud, then right turn inbound on the 124 degree radial to psp and cross psp at or above 7600 ft. Climb in the holding pattern if required. What we did was after takeoff we proceeded to psp then intercepted the 329 degree radial to soggi then pmd (our normal routing). We did not cross psp at or above 7600 ft. The controller then told us our mistake and asked if we could climb VFR to 13000 ft and handed us off to ZLA. ZLA then had us in radar contact and we were back to normal operations.

Narrative: TERMINAL RADAR WAS OTS AT PSP. WE WERE GIVEN THE CATHEDRAL 7 DEP. I LOOKED AT THE SID AND SAW THAT IT HAD OUR TRANSITION TO PMD, SO I WAS THINKING THAT THIS WAS OUR NORMAL SID AND ROUTING TO SFO VIA PMD. HOWEVER, THE SID CALLS FOR US TO PROCEED TO PSP THEN OUT THE 104 DEG RADIAL TO EMRUD, THEN R TURN INBOUND ON THE 124 DEG RADIAL TO PSP AND CROSS PSP AT OR ABOVE 7600 FT. CLB IN THE HOLDING PATTERN IF REQUIRED. WHAT WE DID WAS AFTER TKOF WE PROCEEDED TO PSP THEN INTERCEPTED THE 329 DEG RADIAL TO SOGGI THEN PMD (OUR NORMAL ROUTING). WE DID NOT CROSS PSP AT OR ABOVE 7600 FT. THE CTLR THEN TOLD US OUR MISTAKE AND ASKED IF WE COULD CLB VFR TO 13000 FT AND HANDED US OFF TO ZLA. ZLA THEN HAD US IN RADAR CONTACT AND WE WERE BACK TO NORMAL OPS.
