Narrative:
Scheduled MD80 FL290, received RA 'climb, climb.' departed FL290, saw another aircraft on TCASII and then visually. He in sight, in left climbing turn toward us from 10 O'clock position. Advised ATC of our RA and that we had departed our assigned altitude. We leveled FL297 and other aircraft passed beneath us registering -700 ft on TCASII. Upon our contact to ATC, the controller told other aircraft to immediately descend to FL280. We did return to FL290 when RA resolved. Flight continued on normally.
