Narrative:
Prior to departure, we were delayed due to mechanical problems in the engine. I believe I heard them say it was water in the engine. They drained it out, and I heard mechanics say they got out more than they should have. They released us to go. Approximately 5-10 mins in the air, the captain made a PA that due to mechanical problems we would be returning to dfw. I never had direct conversation with the cockpit. The #2 flight attendant tried to talk to them, but they were busy handling the situation and communicating with the tower. We were pretty much in limbo as to what was going on. They at no time informed me it was an emergency situation. Later, after landing, at that time I found out from them (captain and first officer) that the left engine had gone out. There were no injuries or incidents.
