Narrative:
Flight XXX from pls to jfk R763. Due to severe WX line thunderstorms to FL450 requested clearance from new york commercial radio via HF for burtt intersection direct to ilm with clearance to deviations 50 mi west of track. Received clearance as requested. Upon reaching 32N 76W could not get through WX. Established HF communication with new york for clearance direct to jains intersection. Meanwhile proceeded direct jains in VMC under captain deviation authority/authorized due to severe WX and safety of all passenger on board. 5 mins later received clearance via new york to proceed as requested and to contact ZJX. Later contact was established. After proceeded 30 mi, jax asked us to descend to FL280 at 2000 FPM due to traffic. We complied with no problem. TCASII was inoperative but we were in good VMC with visibility over 50 mi. At no time did we see any visual on the traffic. Rest of flight proceeded normally. At no time did any of our crew feel safety was compromised. Excellent WX conditions prevailed outside of the WX.
