Departed ack on an IFR flight plan. Climbed to 10000 ft, at which time left engine failed. The engine suffered a catastrophic, total failure with parts leaving the airplane. Hya was the closest airport. Landed without incident. Engine was garrett/air research 731-3-16.

Narrative: DEPARTED ACK ON AN IFR FLT PLAN. CLBED TO 10000 FT, AT WHICH TIME L ENG FAILED. THE ENG SUFFERED A CATASTROPHIC, TOTAL FAILURE WITH PARTS LEAVING THE AIRPLANE. HYA WAS THE CLOSEST ARPT. LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. ENG WAS GARRETT/AIR RESEARCH 731-3-16.
