Narrative:
My students and I were flying in C152 practicing takeoffs and lndgs. It was a nice day with not too much wind, so we stopped at the ramp, I endorsed his logbook and medical. Then I sent him to go fly solo. When he was done with runup, he called tower for takeoff clearance. Tower told him to hold short of the runway, and he repeated the instruction back, but he kept going onto the runway. The student said he thought he was told to 'taxi into position and hold,' so that's what he did. I asked him and he knew the difference between 'position and hold' and 'hold short.' I believe that he was a little too excited about his first solo, but I'm sure he learned his lesson and this won't happen again.
