Narrative:

On the night of nov/tue/99, I had 2 autoplt checks, 1 on a B757 and this one on the B737, along with other work on other aircraft. When I signed all my work off at the end of my shift, I forgot that the B737-300/500 aircraft's autoplt need a successful coupled approach by a flight crew to return the aircraft's autoplt to CAT III approach status when the problem cannot be confirmed and the system checks ok per the maintenance manual. As the system checked ok per the maintenance manual as did the B757's autoplt, I did not make a new deferred item on the B737 for the flight crew to perform a coupled approach. 3 days later on dec/sat/99, air carrier airlines line maintenance contacted a dayshift mechanic to remove the aircraft from CAT III status and make a deferred item for the flight crew to perform a successful coupled approach, which they did on dec/sun/99, with no problems.

Title: A B737-300 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH NO DEFERRED ITEM REQUEST FOR A SUCCESSFUL AUTOLAND LNDG AFTER AUTOPLT MAINT.

Narrative: ON THE NIGHT OF NOV/TUE/99, I HAD 2 AUTOPLT CHKS, 1 ON A B757 AND THIS ONE ON THE B737, ALONG WITH OTHER WORK ON OTHER ACFT. WHEN I SIGNED ALL MY WORK OFF AT THE END OF MY SHIFT, I FORGOT THAT THE B737-300/500 ACFT'S AUTOPLT NEED A SUCCESSFUL COUPLED APCH BY A FLC TO RETURN THE ACFT'S AUTOPLT TO CAT III APCH STATUS WHEN THE PROB CANNOT BE CONFIRMED AND THE SYS CHKS OK PER THE MAINT MANUAL. AS THE SYS CHKED OK PER THE MAINT MANUAL AS DID THE B757'S AUTOPLT, I DID NOT MAKE A NEW DEFERRED ITEM ON THE B737 FOR THE FLC TO PERFORM A COUPLED APCH. 3 DAYS LATER ON DEC/SAT/99, ACR AIRLINES LINE MAINT CONTACTED A DAYSHIFT MECH TO REMOVE THE ACFT FROM CAT III STATUS AND MAKE A DEFERRED ITEM FOR THE FLC TO PERFORM A SUCCESSFUL COUPLED APCH, WHICH THEY DID ON DEC/SUN/99, WITH NO PROBS.
