Narrative:
Captain was flying lda runway 30L at stl. We broke out at approximately 7 mi on lda. At that point, captain turned toward the runway when he should have continued on lda until 4.4 DME. As we turned toward runway, the tower asked if we had traffic for runway 30R in sight. We had the traffic in sight the entire time that we were VMC. We had briefed the approach, but I guess we should've emphasized the point when we would turn toward the runway.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B737 CREW DEVIATES FROM LDA CAUSING CONCERN FOR ATC WHO HAS PARALLELING TFC ON ADJACENT RWY ILS AT STL.
Narrative: CAPT WAS FLYING LDA RWY 30L AT STL. WE BROKE OUT AT APPROX 7 MI ON LDA. AT THAT POINT, CAPT TURNED TOWARD THE RWY WHEN HE SHOULD HAVE CONTINUED ON LDA UNTIL 4.4 DME. AS WE TURNED TOWARD RWY, THE TWR ASKED IF WE HAD TFC FOR RWY 30R IN SIGHT. WE HAD THE TFC IN SIGHT THE ENTIRE TIME THAT WE WERE VMC. WE HAD BRIEFED THE APCH, BUT I GUESS WE SHOULD'VE EMPHASIZED THE POINT WHEN WE WOULD TURN TOWARD THE RWY.
