Narrative:
Departure ended flight following right over class D airport and gave a frequency to contact class D tower immediately. Pilot did not get the frequency and asked for clarification. Controller told 'radar service terminated,' squawk VFR, good day' and ended transmission. By this time aircraft was over the field and an F16 was in climb out right towards the aircraft. F16 altered course to the right, C172 continued on course and found right frequency from the map and contacted class D tower, got a permission to transition through the airspace. Controller got plane identify, home base and pilot's name.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: C172 PLT TAKES EVASIVE ACTION TO MISS MIL F16.
Narrative: DEP ENDED FLT FOLLOWING RIGHT OVER CLASS D ARPT AND GAVE A FREQ TO CONTACT CLASS D TWR IMMEDIATELY. PLT DID NOT GET THE FREQ AND ASKED FOR CLARIFICATION. CTLR TOLD 'RADAR SVC TERMINATED,' SQUAWK VFR, GOOD DAY' AND ENDED XMISSION. BY THIS TIME ACFT WAS OVER THE FIELD AND AN F16 WAS IN CLBOUT RIGHT TOWARDS THE ACFT. F16 ALTERED COURSE TO THE R, C172 CONTINUED ON COURSE AND FOUND RIGHT FREQ FROM THE MAP AND CONTACTED CLASS D TWR, GOT A PERMISSION TO TRANSITION THROUGH THE AIRSPACE. CTLR GOT PLANE IDENT, HOME BASE AND PLT'S NAME.
