Air Traffic Incident | Pilot Deviation |
Narrative:
Altitude deviation. Level at 5000 ft, flying autoplt off due to departure and light weight. Change in airspeed on FGS caused throttles to rapidly go to climb power and aircraft pitched up causing altitude deviation of 250-300 ft. Lesson learned. Watch altitude closer, especially during light weight, as throttle movement can cause rapid pitch movements.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: MD80 CREW HAD ALTDEV.
Narrative: ALTDEV. LEVEL AT 5000 FT, FLYING AUTOPLT OFF DUE TO DEP AND LIGHT WT. CHANGE IN AIRSPD ON FGS CAUSED THROTTLES TO RAPIDLY GO TO CLB PWR AND ACFT PITCHED UP CAUSING ALTDEV OF 250-300 FT. LESSON LEARNED. WATCH ALT CLOSER, ESPECIALLY DURING LIGHT WT, AS THROTTLE MOVEMENT CAN CAUSE RAPID PITCH MOVEMENTS.
