Narrative:
I was on final approach to runway 28L at mry when radio failed approximately 1-2 NM from runway. I could not hear the controller's instruction because the radio faded in and out. I landed without incident, cleared the runway and called the tower by telephone. I also went to the tower to explain the situation personally. I reported the radio failure to FBO after returning the plane at home airport. In retrospect, I should have squawked 7600 on the transponder, overflown the field and tilted my wings back and forth for a light signal. However, the runway ahead was clear and I did not want to risk getting hit by traffic behind me.

Title: PVT PLT HAS RADIO FAILURE ON 2 MI FINAL AT MRY, CA. HE CONTINUED TO LAND AND IS CONCERNED THAT HE DID THE WRONG THING.
Narrative: I WAS ON FINAL APCH TO RWY 28L AT MRY WHEN RADIO FAILED APPROX 1-2 NM FROM RWY. I COULD NOT HEAR THE CTLR'S INSTRUCTION BECAUSE THE RADIO FADED IN AND OUT. I LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT, CLRED THE RWY AND CALLED THE TWR BY TELEPHONE. I ALSO WENT TO THE TWR TO EXPLAIN THE SIT PERSONALLY. I RPTED THE RADIO FAILURE TO FBO AFTER RETURNING THE PLANE AT HOME ARPT. IN RETROSPECT, I SHOULD HAVE SQUAWKED 7600 ON THE XPONDER, OVERFLOWN THE FIELD AND TILTED MY WINGS BACK AND FORTH FOR A LIGHT SIGNAL. HOWEVER, THE RWY AHEAD WAS CLR AND I DID NOT WANT TO RISK GETTING HIT BY TFC BEHIND ME.
