Narrative:
RA compliance. We received a TA from TCASII. We looked at our 9 O'clock position and saw an air carrier Y B767 about 4 mi away and closing. We received an RA from TCASII and were told to climb. We did and then told center that we were responding to an RA and were climbing. The B767 was also responding and descending. We would have come very close to the B767 if it had not been for TCASII. Supplemental information from acn 473994: level at FL350 and altimeters set 29.92. ZOB gave us a vector to 220 degrees and speed increase to .77 mach. At approximately XA40Z, we received a TA from TCASII at our 9 O'clock position, 4 mi, at our altitude. We then received an RA to climb. We did so as per TCASII instructions and advised ATC. We visually acquired an air carrier Y B767 and it passed below us. I believe the air carrier Y call sign was xyz or xyb. A new controller came on and gave us clearance to level at FL370. Air carrier Y descended to FL330. 5 mins later we were given permission to descend to FL350.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: MD80 AND B767 RECEIVED A COORDINATED TCASII RA IN ZOB CLASS A AIRSPACE.
Narrative: RA COMPLIANCE. WE RECEIVED A TA FROM TCASII. WE LOOKED AT OUR 9 O'CLOCK POS AND SAW AN ACR Y B767 ABOUT 4 MI AWAY AND CLOSING. WE RECEIVED AN RA FROM TCASII AND WERE TOLD TO CLB. WE DID AND THEN TOLD CTR THAT WE WERE RESPONDING TO AN RA AND WERE CLBING. THE B767 WAS ALSO RESPONDING AND DSNDING. WE WOULD HAVE COME VERY CLOSE TO THE B767 IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR TCASII. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 473994: LEVEL AT FL350 AND ALTIMETERS SET 29.92. ZOB GAVE US A VECTOR TO 220 DEGS AND SPD INCREASE TO .77 MACH. AT APPROX XA40Z, WE RECEIVED A TA FROM TCASII AT OUR 9 O'CLOCK POS, 4 MI, AT OUR ALT. WE THEN RECEIVED AN RA TO CLB. WE DID SO AS PER TCASII INSTRUCTIONS AND ADVISED ATC. WE VISUALLY ACQUIRED AN ACR Y B767 AND IT PASSED BELOW US. I BELIEVE THE ACR Y CALL SIGN WAS XYZ OR XYB. A NEW CTLR CAME ON AND GAVE US CLRNC TO LEVEL AT FL370. ACR Y DSNDED TO FL330. 5 MINS LATER WE WERE GIVEN PERMISSION TO DSND TO FL350.
