Narrative:
Tower had cleared us 2 NM out to continue on runway 9L from a straight in approach. A katana in the traffic pattern was told to extend downwind on report traffic in sight. Well the katana reported traffic in sight and tower clear the katana to land. The katana didn't have us in sight and turned base then final. By this time we were 1/2 NM off the runway and looked to our left and the katana was about 100 ft away from us on short final. We added full power and went around called up tower and advised our action. Tower came back and said sorry about that join downwind and you're clear to land. To the katana all they said was 'you said you had traffic in sight and you didn't' that was all.
