Narrative:
Calling for oceanic clearance prior to entering oceanic airspace, not received. Began turn to enter hold on east side of N5415W and called the hold to shannon control. Shanwick cleared us back to 15W to 'report off' 15W. Told her we had not received oceanic clearance and she read back 'maintain 320 mach .82 track echo.' we did that which was our expected oceanic clearance. Subsequently we were told by shanwick radio on HF they were taking action due to entering oceanic airspace without clearance. We thought shannon was talking to shanwick which is the clearing authority/authorized.
