Narrative:
We were cleared down to 4000 ft MSL by ATC. Some turbulence and downdrafts encountered, resulting in 300 ft deviation lower than cleared. No conflict with other aircraft involved. Discussed this with ATC upon landing. Remedies: stay on top of the situation closer in turbulence.
