Narrative:
We were cleared for an ILS to runway 18R at mco. After turning onto final, the first officer called the field in sight and approach cleared us for the visual to runway 18L with no further comment. I continued on runway 18R and landed. We were cleared for the visual to runway 18L, but my mind never registered the change to runway 18L. Historically the verbiage from ATC has been 'runway 18L is available if you want it.' the absence of this verbiage and lack of comment from the first officer lulled me into thinking we had been cleared to land on runway 18R. I will listen to what is actually said as opposed to what I expect to hear in the future. Supplemental information from acn 480738: initially cleared for ILS runway 18R by approach control. PNF confirmed visual with the mco airport. Approach control reclred our aircraft to a 'visual runway 18L.' switched to tower and tower reconfirmed 'visual to runway 18L.' PNF confirmed visual to runway 18L. Aircraft continued approach to runway 18R and landed on runway 18R. PNF should have confirmed with PF about the clearance to runway 18L.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B737 FLC LANDED ON THE WRONG RWY AT MCO.
Narrative: WE WERE CLRED FOR AN ILS TO RWY 18R AT MCO. AFTER TURNING ONTO FINAL, THE FO CALLED THE FIELD IN SIGHT AND APCH CLRED US FOR THE VISUAL TO RWY 18L WITH NO FURTHER COMMENT. I CONTINUED ON RWY 18R AND LANDED. WE WERE CLRED FOR THE VISUAL TO RWY 18L, BUT MY MIND NEVER REGISTERED THE CHANGE TO RWY 18L. HISTORICALLY THE VERBIAGE FROM ATC HAS BEEN 'RWY 18L IS AVAILABLE IF YOU WANT IT.' THE ABSENCE OF THIS VERBIAGE AND LACK OF COMMENT FROM THE FO LULLED ME INTO THINKING WE HAD BEEN CLRED TO LAND ON RWY 18R. I WILL LISTEN TO WHAT IS ACTUALLY SAID AS OPPOSED TO WHAT I EXPECT TO HEAR IN THE FUTURE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 480738: INITIALLY CLRED FOR ILS RWY 18R BY APCH CTL. PNF CONFIRMED VISUAL WITH THE MCO ARPT. APCH CTL RECLRED OUR ACFT TO A 'VISUAL RWY 18L.' SWITCHED TO TWR AND TWR RECONFIRMED 'VISUAL TO RWY 18L.' PNF CONFIRMED VISUAL TO RWY 18L. ACFT CONTINUED APCH TO RWY 18R AND LANDED ON RWY 18R. PNF SHOULD HAVE CONFIRMED WITH PF ABOUT THE CLRNC TO RWY 18L.
