Narrative:
In the process of starting to upgrade all fleet's egpws (enhanced ground proximity warning system) computers to -XXX, I noted company part number abcx had 2 manufacturer's part numbers: -YYY or -ZZZ. Telex from boeing stated -YYY was never certified on B737. Further research showed B777 only certified with -YYY. B737 only certified with -ZZZ. After discussion with inventory on removing -YYY from the company part numbers, I was going to release manual alerts to the B777 and B737 fleets to prevent incorrect units being installed on the aircraft. I decided to verify the aircraft were correctly configured by issuing an alert on oct/mon/00, while reviewing the B737 alert, 6 aircraft were found incorrect.
