Narrative:
The cart restraints on the S80 are not long enough to secure the new 1/2 cart doors closed. The cart is held in, but the doors come open with cart restraints in down position. The result it that the items in the cart slid out, blocking the forward galley exit on takeoff roll from dfw. The cart is the same height as the full cart, however the door location is approximately 1/2 inches lower than the door on the full sized cart. This coupled with the inadequate latches in the doors, creates a situation where the door will open and its contents spill out blocking the exit door. Flight attendant #1 brought this to my attention and should be commended for her conscientious safety attitude from someone in her chain of supervision.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: DFW-MCI. FAULTY DESIGN OF NEW ONE-HALF CART DOORS. TOO LOW FOR RESTRAINING BAR, FAULTY DOOR LATCHES. TKOF ROLL, CONTENTS OF CART CAME LOOSE.
Narrative: THE CART RESTRAINTS ON THE S80 ARE NOT LONG ENOUGH TO SECURE THE NEW 1/2 CART DOORS CLOSED. THE CART IS HELD IN, BUT THE DOORS COME OPEN WITH CART RESTRAINTS IN DOWN POS. THE RESULT IT THAT THE ITEMS IN THE CART SLID OUT, BLOCKING THE FORWARD GALLEY EXIT ON TKOF ROLL FROM DFW. THE CART IS THE SAME HEIGHT AS THE FULL CART, HOWEVER THE DOOR LOCATION IS APPROX 1/2 INCHES LOWER THAN THE DOOR ON THE FULL SIZED CART. THIS COUPLED WITH THE INADEQUATE LATCHES IN THE DOORS, CREATES A SIT WHERE THE DOOR WILL OPEN AND ITS CONTENTS SPILL OUT BLOCKING THE EXIT DOOR. FLT ATTENDANT #1 BROUGHT THIS TO MY ATTN AND SHOULD BE COMMENDED FOR HER CONSCIENTIOUS SAFETY ATTITUDE FROM SOMEONE IN HER CHAIN OF SUPERVISION.
