Narrative:
I left kpsp at XA00, VFR flight to kvgt. Leaving, winds were 320 degrees at 20 KTS. Encountered strong turbulence while climbing to pass over mountains on V370 to tnp VOR. Upon reaching tnp VOR, my GPS went blank and my passenger was quite airsick. I found that my data card had shook loose from the GPS and attempted a reboot. While tending to my passenger best possible, was flying the 010 degree radial off tnp to intercept V514 to goffs. I had wanted the 028 degree right but my rebooted GPS indicated that I was a bit further east than planned. Flight following advised me that R-250IE was hot and I acknowledged. I became concerned of my exact position as my GPS went off again, and began a 180 degree turn back to tnp just as flight following advised that I was entering R-250IE restricted airspace. I circled near tnp VOR to cleanup after my recovering passenger best possible. Returned to VOR navigation tnp, direct goffs, direct las VOR, direct kvgt without further incident.

Title: C182 PLT ENTERED RESTRICTED AIRSPACE WHEN ATTEMPTING TO USE AN UNAPPROVED HAND HELD GPS. THE DATA CARD KEPT COMING OUT OF THE GPS BECAUSE OF SEVERE TURBULENCE.
Narrative: I LEFT KPSP AT XA00, VFR FLT TO KVGT. LEAVING, WINDS WERE 320 DEGS AT 20 KTS. ENCOUNTERED STRONG TURBULENCE WHILE CLBING TO PASS OVER MOUNTAINS ON V370 TO TNP VOR. UPON REACHING TNP VOR, MY GPS WENT BLANK AND MY PAX WAS QUITE AIRSICK. I FOUND THAT MY DATA CARD HAD SHOOK LOOSE FROM THE GPS AND ATTEMPTED A REBOOT. WHILE TENDING TO MY PAX BEST POSSIBLE, WAS FLYING THE 010 DEG RADIAL OFF TNP TO INTERCEPT V514 TO GOFFS. I HAD WANTED THE 028 DEG R BUT MY REBOOTED GPS INDICATED THAT I WAS A BIT FURTHER E THAN PLANNED. FLT FOLLOWING ADVISED ME THAT R-250IE WAS HOT AND I ACKNOWLEDGED. I BECAME CONCERNED OF MY EXACT POS AS MY GPS WENT OFF AGAIN, AND BEGAN A 180 DEG TURN BACK TO TNP JUST AS FLT FOLLOWING ADVISED THAT I WAS ENTERING R-250IE RESTRICTED AIRSPACE. I CIRCLED NEAR TNP VOR TO CLEANUP AFTER MY RECOVERING PAX BEST POSSIBLE. RETURNED TO VOR NAV TNP, DIRECT GOFFS, DIRECT LAS VOR, DIRECT KVGT WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
