Narrative:
Level at FL280 waiting to be cleared to filed altitude. As controller issued us a hard 90 degree turn we received a TA followed immediately by an RA to 'descend.' we complied with the turn and descent RA. As we rolled through the turn we observed an rj pass left to right in front of us. We also heard him on the radio tell ATC that he was taking RA action. ATC told us to return to FL280 and proceeded on course upon completion of maneuvering. Nothing else was said on radio.
