Narrative:
Airworthiness directive 2000-25-01 was misread. It superseded 80-26-05 which deals with main gear door hinges and 1 already dye penetrant. 1 of 3 planes set of hinges but 2000-25-01 says you must replace all aluminum not dye any more order and replaced hinges. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated he was unaware of the superseding airworthiness directive to replace the aluminum hinges with steel hinges. The reporter stated a better system has been instituted to make this information readily available to all technicians.
