Narrative:
On dec/sat/02, I signed the logbook jan/thu/03 on aircraft airworthiness release. I had completed a check by myself and an airworthiness directive. The airworthiness directive had called for the inspection of the diodes on the generator control units and battery diode. I found the APU generator control unit diode did not pass test. I ordered a new generator control unit and I also asked for a battery which the airworthiness directive called for replacement if any diode was to fail test. Maintenance control sent me a generator control unit and the battery I was told would be replaced at our station in ZZZ1. Due to the fact that we have limited aircraft and I'm not hazmat qualified at this station I understood (wrongfully) that the aircraft need to fly so I signed the release. Battery never got replaced. I failed to follow up. Never heard anything until yesterday jan/wed/03 when I was told that I'm being terminated for signing the airworthiness release and not changing the battery as called for on airworthiness directive.

Title: A B737-300 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH A BATTERY AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE NOT ACCOMPLISHED BUT SIGNED OFF AS COMPLETED.
Narrative: ON DEC/SAT/02, I SIGNED THE LOGBOOK JAN/THU/03 ON ACFT AIRWORTHINESS RELEASE. I HAD COMPLETED A CHK BY MYSELF AND AN AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE. THE AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE HAD CALLED FOR THE INSPECTION OF THE DIODES ON THE GENERATOR CTL UNITS AND BATTERY DIODE. I FOUND THE APU GENERATOR CTL UNIT DIODE DID NOT PASS TEST. I ORDERED A NEW GENERATOR CTL UNIT AND I ALSO ASKED FOR A BATTERY WHICH THE AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE CALLED FOR REPLACEMENT IF ANY DIODE WAS TO FAIL TEST. MAINT CTL SENT ME A GENERATOR CTL UNIT AND THE BATTERY I WAS TOLD WOULD BE REPLACED AT OUR STATION IN ZZZ1. DUE TO THE FACT THAT WE HAVE LIMITED ACFT AND I'M NOT HAZMAT QUALIFIED AT THIS STATION I UNDERSTOOD (WRONGFULLY) THAT THE ACFT NEED TO FLY SO I SIGNED THE RELEASE.
