Narrative:
On the listed date and time another pilot and I were practicing instrument approachs into flint airport (fnt). We landed to switch pilot's near the approach end of runway 18. After restarting the aircraft, I contacted tower and advised him that I was ready for takeoff. What I now believe the tower advised me was to 'taxi to runway 18,' at the time I thought I was given a 'taxi to position.' when I was nearing the hold short line, I was unsure of the tower's last transmission and checked with my fellow pilot who also believed I was given a 'taxi to position.' I rolled out onto the runway and was immediately advised to exit same. To prevent this from ever reoccurring is simple. If there is any doubt about an instruction I will request clarification from ATC. It is not anyone else's responsibility in the aircraft, but the PIC's to be sure of all instructions.

Title: PIPER PA28 PLT MISTAKENLY TAXIED INTO POS ON THE RWY WHEN TWR CTLR MEANT TO TAXI TO THE RWY AND HOLD SHORT.
Narrative: ON THE LISTED DATE AND TIME ANOTHER PLT AND I WERE PRACTICING INSTRUMENT APCHS INTO FLINT ARPT (FNT). WE LANDED TO SWITCH PLT'S NEAR THE APCH END OF RWY 18. AFTER RESTARTING THE ACFT, I CONTACTED TWR AND ADVISED HIM THAT I WAS READY FOR TKOF. WHAT I NOW BELIEVE THE TWR ADVISED ME WAS TO 'TAXI TO RWY 18,' AT THE TIME I THOUGHT I WAS GIVEN A 'TAXI TO POS.' WHEN I WAS NEARING THE HOLD SHORT LINE, I WAS UNSURE OF THE TWR'S LAST TRANSMISSION AND CHECKED WITH MY FELLOW PLT WHO ALSO BELIEVED I WAS GIVEN A 'TAXI TO POS.' I ROLLED OUT ONTO THE RWY AND WAS IMMEDIATELY ADVISED TO EXIT SAME. TO PREVENT THIS FROM EVER REOCCURRING IS SIMPLE. IF THERE IS ANY DOUBT ABOUT AN INSTRUCTION I WILL REQUEST CLARIFICATION FROM ATC. IT IS NOT ANYONE ELSE'S RESPONSIBILITY IN THE ACFT, BUT THE PIC'S TO BE SURE OF ALL INSTRUCTIONS.
