Narrative:

While taxiing to runway 25L, mke, on taxiway M, observed the hold short line for runway 25L in the distance. Was performing the before takeoff checklist and assisted the first officer in securing the cockpit door restraining device. When I looked back outside on the taxiway, I realized that I had taxied past the hold short line. I contacted the tower and informed them what had happened. They in turn cleared us for takeoff. I allowed myself to become distraction while performing the checklist in addition to my attention being diverted away to aid in the securing of the restraining bar for the cockpit door. I was horrified that I allowed this to happen while runway incursions are rising and are becoming a serious problem. As a professional pilot I must have the discipline to hold on items such as checklists until such time as it would not interfere with other activities.
