Narrative:
We were also conducting a taxi check per the checklist. By waiting taxi check would have definitely helped. Supplemental information from acn 545998: the captain then called for the taxi checklist which I was inside visually doing. The captain keyed up the microphone, to which he was asking about information about another aircraft on the field. The ground controller quickly (in response to his information question), informed us that we had taxied onto an active runway, about 10 ft of our nose had crossed the hold short line. The ground controller/tower controller just advised at that time to back-taxi into position and hold. I believe fatigue played a major role for the captain, not thinking clearly. For further prevention, I need to be looking outside more, and following the captain along with the airport diagram, speaking up more quickly and hold my checklist duty until I know he/she is going the appropriate way.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A CARJ CREW, TAXIING FOR TKOF AT MDT, TAXIED PAST A HOLD SHORT LINE TO THEIR DEP RWY.
Narrative: WE WERE ALSO CONDUCTING A TAXI CHK PER THE CHKLIST. BY WAITING TAXI CHK WOULD HAVE DEFINITELY HELPED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 545998: THE CAPT THEN CALLED FOR THE TAXI CHKLIST WHICH I WAS INSIDE VISUALLY DOING. THE CAPT KEYED UP THE MIKE, TO WHICH HE WAS ASKING ABOUT INFO ABOUT ANOTHER ACFT ON THE FIELD. THE GND CTLR QUICKLY (IN RESPONSE TO HIS INFO QUESTION), INFORMED US THAT WE HAD TAXIED ONTO AN ACTIVE RWY, ABOUT 10 FT OF OUR NOSE HAD CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE. THE GND CTLR/TWR CTLR JUST ADVISED AT THAT TIME TO BACK-TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD. I BELIEVE FATIGUE PLAYED A MAJOR ROLE FOR THE CAPT, NOT THINKING CLRLY. FOR FURTHER PREVENTION, I NEED TO BE LOOKING OUTSIDE MORE, AND FOLLOWING THE CAPT ALONG WITH THE ARPT DIAGRAM, SPEAKING UP MORE QUICKLY AND HOLD MY CHKLIST DUTY UNTIL I KNOW HE/SHE IS GOING THE APPROPRIATE WAY.
