Narrative:

We received taxi clearance after a 45 min gate hold. We were cleared to taxi to runway 24, hold short runway 19. We were then advised that a citation was passing right to left and to follow him. We called him in sight and said we would follow. I then said to the PF to taxi to runway 24 but not to cross runway 19. He said 'I got it.' I started to run checklist and prepare for departure. I looked up a few times to see where we were. When we stopped I looked out to see where we were and did not see the hold lines. When I realized where we were, I reached for the microphone, but before I could call ground they called us and asked if we were past the hold lines. I told them yes, we were. Although we did not make it on the runway, we had crossed the hold by about 15 ft. I asked the first officer what happened and he stated that he was following the jet in front and didn't notice the hold until he had crossed it.

Narrative: WE RECEIVED TAXI CLRNC AFTER A 45 MIN GATE HOLD. WE WERE CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 24, HOLD SHORT RWY 19. WE WERE THEN ADVISED THAT A CITATION WAS PASSING R TO L AND TO FOLLOW HIM. WE CALLED HIM IN SIGHT AND SAID WE WOULD FOLLOW. I THEN SAID TO THE PF TO TAXI TO RWY 24 BUT NOT TO CROSS RWY 19. HE SAID 'I GOT IT.' I STARTED TO RUN CHKLIST AND PREPARE FOR DEP. I LOOKED UP A FEW TIMES TO SEE WHERE WE WERE. WHEN WE STOPPED I LOOKED OUT TO SEE WHERE WE WERE AND DID NOT SEE THE HOLD LINES. WHEN I REALIZED WHERE WE WERE, I REACHED FOR THE MIKE, BUT BEFORE I COULD CALL GND THEY CALLED US AND ASKED IF WE WERE PAST THE HOLD LINES. I TOLD THEM YES, WE WERE. ALTHOUGH WE DID NOT MAKE IT ON THE RWY, WE HAD CROSSED THE HOLD BY ABOUT 15 FT. I ASKED THE FO WHAT HAPPENED AND HE STATED THAT HE WAS FOLLOWING THE JET IN FRONT AND DIDN'T NOTICE THE HOLD UNTIL HE HAD CROSSED IT.
