Narrative:
The situation occurred during an ATP training flight from sat airport to stinson VOR. We were climbing through 2700 ft MSL on our way to 3000 ft MSL, when I heard a call over the radio announcing a 'near midair collision.' my student was under a hood and I was keeping watch for traffic. The cherokee was never visible to me as it crossed below the left side of our aircraft. Our aircraft also had a passenger on board (an ATP pilot) who was also watching for traffic. Mr X was sitting on the right side of the plane and only viewed the cherokee as it was banking behind us. ATC reported to the other aircraft, who made the 'near midair collision' call, and said they were 500 ft below us. No TA's were made, and ATC initially questioned the cherokee after the first call about who they were talking to (sat approach or stinson tower). Supplemental information from acn 572551: I noticed a white flash in my peripheral vision between left engine and fuselage. I observed a low wing cherokee-type aircraft approximately 150 ft below and aft of the left engine in a bank away from our position. We were climbing at approximately 700 FPM on a vector to ssf. The cherokee was never pointed out to us for traffic.

Title: NMAC IN THE CLASS C AIRSPACE BTWN A CLBING IFR COUGAR AA7 AND A VFR CHEROKEE IN LEVEL FLT 13 NM SE OF THE SAT VOR, TX.
Narrative: THE SIT OCCURRED DURING AN ATP TRAINING FLT FROM SAT ARPT TO STINSON VOR. WE WERE CLBING THROUGH 2700 FT MSL ON OUR WAY TO 3000 FT MSL, WHEN I HEARD A CALL OVER THE RADIO ANNOUNCING A 'NMAC.' MY STUDENT WAS UNDER A HOOD AND I WAS KEEPING WATCH FOR TFC. THE CHEROKEE WAS NEVER VISIBLE TO ME AS IT CROSSED BELOW THE L SIDE OF OUR ACFT. OUR ACFT ALSO HAD A PAX ON BOARD (AN ATP PLT) WHO WAS ALSO WATCHING FOR TFC. MR X WAS SITTING ON THE R SIDE OF THE PLANE AND ONLY VIEWED THE CHEROKEE AS IT WAS BANKING BEHIND US. ATC RPTED TO THE OTHER ACFT, WHO MADE THE 'NMAC' CALL, AND SAID THEY WERE 500 FT BELOW US. NO TA'S WERE MADE, AND ATC INITIALLY QUESTIONED THE CHEROKEE AFTER THE FIRST CALL ABOUT WHO THEY WERE TALKING TO (SAT APCH OR STINSON TWR). SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 572551: I NOTICED A WHITE FLASH IN MY PERIPHERAL VISION BTWN L ENG AND FUSELAGE. I OBSERVED A LOW WING CHEROKEE-TYPE ACFT APPROX 150 FT BELOW AND AFT OF THE L ENG IN A BANK AWAY FROM OUR POS. WE WERE CLBING AT APPROX 700 FPM ON A VECTOR TO SSF. THE CHEROKEE WAS NEVER POINTED OUT TO US FOR TFC.
