Narrative:
While holding short of runway 9 at taxiway west, we thought we were cleared into position, and read back to tower 'position and hold.' tower then stated that he had told an air carrier Y with a similar call sign into position, and not us. Tower then cleared us into position. The flight was continued without event. A major contributing factor was a similar sounding call sign.

Title: DO328 AT BOS ENTERED RWY WITHOUT ATC CLRNC.
Narrative: WHILE HOLDING SHORT OF RWY 9 AT TXWY W, WE THOUGHT WE WERE CLRED INTO POS, AND READ BACK TO TWR 'POS AND HOLD.' TWR THEN STATED THAT HE HAD TOLD AN ACR Y WITH A SIMILAR CALL SIGN INTO POS, AND NOT US. TWR THEN CLRED US INTO POS. THE FLT WAS CONTINUED WITHOUT EVENT. A MAJOR CONTRIBUTING FACTOR WAS A SIMILAR SOUNDING CALL SIGN.
