Narrative:

On takeoff, tower advised us of a large ship in the channel. We did not see it and questioned tower for location. It was off to the right of the runway and posed no conflict to our engine failure procedure and we took off. After takeoff, I saw the ship was indeed well to the right of runway 22L centerline. No conflict occurred nor would have if we experienced an engine failure. I realized afterward that our takeoff message reads: if the tower reports a high masted vessel in the departure area, takeoff must be delayed until the tower reports the departure area clear. We visually cleared the area and tower cleared us for takeoff. Supplemental information from acn 577131: after airborne, we checked the takeoff data and saw that it said no takeoff if a ship was in the channel.

Title: A310 CAPT ELECTS TO DEPART BOS AFTER 'SHIP IN THE CHANNEL' ADVISORY IS ISSUED.

Narrative: ON TKOF, TWR ADVISED US OF A LARGE SHIP IN THE CHANNEL. WE DID NOT SEE IT AND QUESTIONED TWR FOR LOCATION. IT WAS OFF TO THE R OF THE RWY AND POSED NO CONFLICT TO OUR ENG FAILURE PROC AND WE TOOK OFF. AFTER TKOF, I SAW THE SHIP WAS INDEED WELL TO THE R OF RWY 22L CTRLINE. NO CONFLICT OCCURRED NOR WOULD HAVE IF WE EXPERIENCED AN ENG FAILURE. I REALIZED AFTERWARD THAT OUR TKOF MESSAGE READS: IF THE TWR RPTS A HIGH MASTED VESSEL IN THE DEP AREA, TKOF MUST BE DELAYED UNTIL THE TWR RPTS THE DEP AREA CLR. WE VISUALLY CLRED THE AREA AND TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 577131: AFTER AIRBORNE, WE CHKED THE TKOF DATA AND SAW THAT IT SAID NO TKOF IF A SHIP WAS IN THE CHANNEL.
