Narrative:
Departed teterboro, nj, on a teb 5 departure. The incident occurred when ATC stated I was at 2000 ft too soon. I was then cleared to 8000 ft and off frequency. At that time, my DME read 4.8. It's my belief my emphasis on climb was after the turn instead of the DME fix. I use commercial charts, and the DME fix is printed in smaller type, and in parenthesis. Perhaps a change in that print would make the procedure clrer. On the other hand, I may have hurried my personal briefing.
