Narrative:
It was brought to my attention at XA30 CDT on jun/fri/03, that airworthiness directive 98-24-35 pertaining to AS350B helicopter's was overdue compliance from its 50 hour recurring inspection requirement. The airworthiness directive, which requires inspection of the tail rotor pitch-change link rod-end bearings for axial or radial play, was complied with immediately upon discovery on this day, prior to further flight. The aircraft total time at which compliance was due was 10382.3 hours. This time was exceeded by 4.6 hours before it was discovered that the inspection was overdue. As PIC, I take full responsibility for the exceedance. There some factors contributing to the oversight/flight: a pending change-over of maintenance record-keeping from one certificate holder to another. A misunderstanding of the effect of a recent change of the P/C links as to whether the airworthiness directive was still applicable and, if so, when. On-going, temporary relocations of this aircraft to other, out-of-state bases. I intend to prevent a recurrence of this event through more diligent attention to maintenance records.

Title: AS50 PLT OVERFLEW AN AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE NOTE INSPECTION TIME LIMITATION.
Narrative: IT WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTN AT XA30 CDT ON JUN/FRI/03, THAT AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE 98-24-35 PERTAINING TO AS350B HELI'S WAS OVERDUE COMPLIANCE FROM ITS 50 HR RECURRING INSPECTION REQUIREMENT. THE AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE, WHICH REQUIRES INSPECTION OF THE TAIL ROTOR PITCH-CHANGE LINK ROD-END BEARINGS FOR AXIAL OR RADIAL PLAY, WAS COMPLIED WITH IMMEDIATELY UPON DISCOVERY ON THIS DAY, PRIOR TO FURTHER FLT. THE ACFT TOTAL TIME AT WHICH COMPLIANCE WAS DUE WAS 10382.3 HRS. THIS TIME WAS EXCEEDED BY 4.6 HRS BEFORE IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE INSPECTION WAS OVERDUE. AS PIC, I TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE EXCEEDANCE. THERE SOME FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO THE OVERSIGHT/FLT: A PENDING CHANGE-OVER OF MAINT RECORD-KEEPING FROM ONE CERTIFICATE HOLDER TO ANOTHER. A MISUNDERSTANDING OF THE EFFECT OF A RECENT CHANGE OF THE P/C LINKS AS TO WHETHER THE AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE WAS STILL APPLICABLE AND, IF SO, WHEN. ON-GOING, TEMPORARY RELOCATIONS OF THIS ACFT TO OTHER, OUT-OF-STATE BASES. I INTEND TO PREVENT A RECURRENCE OF THIS EVENT THROUGH MORE DILIGENT ATTN TO MAINT RECORDS.
