Narrative:
Tail compartment temperature high after takeoff. Immediately after takeoff from dfw, tail compartment temperature high and master warning illuminated and flickered. Crew performed emergency procedure. Captain declared emergency with ATC and requested vectors for downwind to return to land at dfw. On downwind leg, lights extinguished in less than 2 mins. The captain determined there to be no fire hazard. Since the conditions that caused the lights to illuminate no longer existed, he elected to terminate the emergency and continue flight to destination rather than land overweight. Remainder of flight uneventful. Ambient temperature at dfw 37 degree sc, APU was running, for additional cabin cooling and shut down just prior to takeoff, started both engines at gate for power-back. Had high thrust setting for takeoff.

Title: MD80 CREW HAD THE 'TAIL COMPARTMENT TEMP HIGH' LIGHT ILLUMINATE AFTER TKOF. THE CREW CANCELED AN EMER AND CONTINUED TO DEST AFTER THE LIGHT WENT OUT.
Narrative: TAIL COMPARTMENT TEMP HIGH AFTER TKOF. IMMEDIATELY AFTER TKOF FROM DFW, TAIL COMPARTMENT TEMP HIGH AND MASTER WARNING ILLUMINATED AND FLICKERED. CREW PERFORMED EMER PROC.
