Narrative:
I was between the above radials and distance from bna when I was instructed by ATC (local departure) to follow the aircraft from our right to mqy. Mqy was VFR and landing runway 32. I continued to follow the aircraft to the airport. The aircraft entered the traffic pattern on a right base for runway 32. I then reported that I planned to follow the aircraft on right base. No one had made any radio calls until ours. An aircraft then called left base for runway 32. The aircraft on left base proceeded to shouting on left base over the radio about FARS and yelling at the aircraft on right base who was now turning final. The 2 aircraft continued to argue. No other aircraft could notify their position in the traffic pattern. Due to the radio congestion of the radio, I changed my position to enter final approach approximately 4 NM. An MU2 jumped inbtwn the chatter to report a 3 NM final on the ILS runway 32. I then reported that I planned to enter a 4 NM final for runway 32 behind the MU2. No one was injured. I was writing this because of the radio call I made to enter a right base in a class G airport.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: C172 LNDG MQY ENCOUNTERS CONFLICT WITH OTHER PATTERN TFC.
Narrative: I WAS BTWN THE ABOVE RADIALS AND DISTANCE FROM BNA WHEN I WAS INSTRUCTED BY ATC (LCL DEP) TO FOLLOW THE ACFT FROM OUR R TO MQY. MQY WAS VFR AND LNDG RWY 32. I CONTINUED TO FOLLOW THE ACFT TO THE ARPT. THE ACFT ENTERED THE TFC PATTERN ON A R BASE FOR RWY 32. I THEN RPTED THAT I PLANNED TO FOLLOW THE ACFT ON R BASE. NO ONE HAD MADE ANY RADIO CALLS UNTIL OURS. AN ACFT THEN CALLED L BASE FOR RWY 32. THE ACFT ON L BASE PROCEEDED TO SHOUTING ON L BASE OVER THE RADIO ABOUT FARS AND YELLING AT THE ACFT ON R BASE WHO WAS NOW TURNING FINAL. THE 2 ACFT CONTINUED TO ARGUE. NO OTHER ACFT COULD NOTIFY THEIR POS IN THE TFC PATTERN. DUE TO THE RADIO CONGESTION OF THE RADIO, I CHANGED MY POS TO ENTER FINAL APCH APPROX 4 NM. AN MU2 JUMPED INBTWN THE CHATTER TO RPT A 3 NM FINAL ON THE ILS RWY 32. I THEN RPTED THAT I PLANNED TO ENTER A 4 NM FINAL FOR RWY 32 BEHIND THE MU2. NO ONE WAS INJURED. I WAS WRITING THIS BECAUSE OF THE RADIO CALL I MADE TO ENTER A R BASE IN A CLASS G ARPT.
