Narrative:

Captain started feeling ill shortly after takeoff, felt nauseous and didn't feel well enough to continue flight. Decided with first officer that it was in our best interest to return to dfw. First officer worked radios and followed ATC vectors to ILS approach into dfw. Emergency was declared. Captain was conscious and alert and able to monitor flight to completion, making sure all checklists were accomplished and callouts were made. Flight landed in dfw without incident. First officer taxied to ramp area where aircraft was parked and paramedics met aircraft. Captain walked off aircraft and was taken to hospital for chkout. Prior to flight, captain felt indigestion but no nausea. During approach to dfw, captain experienced nausea and some muscle cramping. Doctors at hospital concluded the nausea was from a stomach virus and the muscle cramping was from dehydration.
