Narrative:

I received a taxi clearance to runway 17L at apa. As I taxied onto the parallel taxiway, it was under construction ahead. I asked the controller what the easiest way around it was, and he said 'you have to just find your way around it on the ramp.' as I reached the end of the ramp, I taxied toward the approach end of the runway. The hold short lines were asphalted over, therefore there was not a line on the ground. I taxied and stopped where I thought the line was. The controller advised me I was past the hold line and to contact the tower as soon as possible. I offered to do a 180 degree turn and get on the correct side and they told me that there was not traffic on final, to just contact tower. With all of the construction, it was hard to tell where the hold line was. I did not notice the hold line sign, possibly due to the construction. I feel the tower could have given more information on the end of the taxiway/holding area, but I am at fault for not asking for help, when I knew I needed it. Next time, I will not hesitate to ask for help when I need it, and to be more aware of the signs on the airport.

Title: A PA46 PLT INADVERTENTLY CROSSES THE RWY HOLD LINE THAT WAS OBSCURED BY CONSTRUCTION AT APA, CO.

Narrative: I RECEIVED A TAXI CLRNC TO RWY 17L AT APA. AS I TAXIED ONTO THE PARALLEL TXWY, IT WAS UNDER CONSTRUCTION AHEAD. I ASKED THE CTLR WHAT THE EASIEST WAY AROUND IT WAS, AND HE SAID 'YOU HAVE TO JUST FIND YOUR WAY AROUND IT ON THE RAMP.' AS I REACHED THE END OF THE RAMP, I TAXIED TOWARD THE APCH END OF THE RWY. THE HOLD SHORT LINES WERE ASPHALTED OVER, THEREFORE THERE WAS NOT A LINE ON THE GND. I TAXIED AND STOPPED WHERE I THOUGHT THE LINE WAS. THE CTLR ADVISED ME I WAS PAST THE HOLD LINE AND TO CONTACT THE TWR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I OFFERED TO DO A 180 DEG TURN AND GET ON THE CORRECT SIDE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NOT TFC ON FINAL, TO JUST CONTACT TWR. WITH ALL OF THE CONSTRUCTION, IT WAS HARD TO TELL WHERE THE HOLD LINE WAS. I DID NOT NOTICE THE HOLD LINE SIGN, POSSIBLY DUE TO THE CONSTRUCTION. I FEEL THE TWR COULD HAVE GIVEN MORE INFO ON THE END OF THE TXWY/HOLDING AREA, BUT I AM AT FAULT FOR NOT ASKING FOR HELP, WHEN I KNEW I NEEDED IT. NEXT TIME, I WILL NOT HESITATE TO ASK FOR HELP WHEN I NEED IT, AND TO BE MORE AWARE OF THE SIGNS ON THE ARPT.
