Narrative:

While accomplishing a B767-400 ETOPS predep check; I checked oil quantity on both engines. Added 3 pints to #1 engine; 9 pints to #2 engine. On the predep check form block 41; (engine #2) it states if excessive oil is used (1/2 pint per hour or more) notify technical management center. The engine had not had any oil added to it on this log page in 6 legs. Cumulatively; this is roughly 30 hours of flying without any oil added. I added 9 pints. Talking to air carrier maintenance control; they advised that only the atlanta to ZZZ leg mattered and the FAA would put the proof on me that the 9 pints were not lost on this particular leg and a leak check needed to be accomplished to verify this. I inspected the engine and it had no leaks. I failed to call technical management center to advise that I put in 9 pints. The flight from atl-ZZZ is approximately +/-5 hours; so the amount over 5 pints warrants a call. I did not note on the log page that I inspected the engine for a leak check; even though I was convinced all was ok. Checking the outgoing flight from ZZZ to hnl; only 1 pint was added after a 5 1/2 hour flight. Obviously the engine was ok. Corrective action: change the wording on job card to reflect the obvious; that this aircraft flies many hours between oil service and the hours should be cumulative in respect to oil used and not reflective of just the last leg.

Title: A B767-400 DURING A PREDEP ETOPS CHK; 9 PINTS OF OIL WAS ADDED TO #2 ENG. TIME BTWN LAST SVC 30 HRS. NO LEAKS WERE FOUND.

Narrative: WHILE ACCOMPLISHING A B767-400 ETOPS PREDEP CHK; I CHKED OIL QUANTITY ON BOTH ENGS. ADDED 3 PINTS TO #1 ENG; 9 PINTS TO #2 ENG. ON THE PREDEP CHK FORM BLOCK 41; (ENG #2) IT STATES IF EXCESSIVE OIL IS USED (1/2 PINT PER HR OR MORE) NOTIFY TECHNICAL MGMNT CTR. THE ENG HAD NOT HAD ANY OIL ADDED TO IT ON THIS LOG PAGE IN 6 LEGS. CUMULATIVELY; THIS IS ROUGHLY 30 HRS OF FLYING WITHOUT ANY OIL ADDED. I ADDED 9 PINTS. TALKING TO ACR MAINT CTL; THEY ADVISED THAT ONLY THE ATLANTA TO ZZZ LEG MATTERED AND THE FAA WOULD PUT THE PROOF ON ME THAT THE 9 PINTS WERE NOT LOST ON THIS PARTICULAR LEG AND A LEAK CHK NEEDED TO BE ACCOMPLISHED TO VERIFY THIS. I INSPECTED THE ENG AND IT HAD NO LEAKS. I FAILED TO CALL TECHNICAL MGMNT CTR TO ADVISE THAT I PUT IN 9 PINTS. THE FLT FROM ATL-ZZZ IS APPROX +/-5 HRS; SO THE AMOUNT OVER 5 PINTS WARRANTS A CALL. I DID NOT NOTE ON THE LOG PAGE THAT I INSPECTED THE ENG FOR A LEAK CHK; EVEN THOUGH I WAS CONVINCED ALL WAS OK. CHKING THE OUTGOING FLT FROM ZZZ TO HNL; ONLY 1 PINT WAS ADDED AFTER A 5 1/2 HR FLT. OBVIOUSLY THE ENG WAS OK. CORRECTIVE ACTION: CHANGE THE WORDING ON JOB CARD TO REFLECT THE OBVIOUS; THAT THIS ACFT FLIES MANY HRS BTWN OIL SVC AND THE HRS SHOULD BE CUMULATIVE IN RESPECT TO OIL USED AND NOT REFLECTIVE OF JUST THE LAST LEG.
