Narrative:
As we are operating a giii (stage ii) we are required to perform a noise abatement departure from teb; which requires a steep initial climb to 1500 ft then a turn to 280 degrees with a substantial power reduction -- all this performed at V2 plus 10 KTS. We were handed off to ny departure at approximately 500 ft MSL; and when we checked in with same both co-pilot and I mistakenly understood a runway heading climb continued to 5000 ft. I think because of the workload at that time we simply dismissed the right turn to 280 degrees from runway heading (238 degrees). We had traveled to 12 DME of teb on our way to 5000 ft when we were queried by ATC as to what heading we were on -- then realized our mistake.

Title: A GIII CREW DEPARTING ON TEB 5 FAILED TO TURN TO 280 DEGS LEAVING 1500 FT.
Narrative: AS WE ARE OPERATING A GIII (STAGE II) WE ARE REQUIRED TO PERFORM A NOISE ABATEMENT DEP FROM TEB; WHICH REQUIRES A STEEP INITIAL CLB TO 1500 FT THEN A TURN TO 280 DEGS WITH A SUBSTANTIAL PWR REDUCTION -- ALL THIS PERFORMED AT V2 PLUS 10 KTS. WE WERE HANDED OFF TO NY DEP AT APPROX 500 FT MSL; AND WHEN WE CHKED IN WITH SAME BOTH CO-PLT AND I MISTAKENLY UNDERSTOOD A RWY HEADING CLB CONTINUED TO 5000 FT. I THINK BECAUSE OF THE WORKLOAD AT THAT TIME WE SIMPLY DISMISSED THE R TURN TO 280 DEGS FROM RWY HEADING (238 DEGS). WE HAD TRAVELED TO 12 DME OF TEB ON OUR WAY TO 5000 FT WHEN WE WERE QUERIED BY ATC AS TO WHAT HEADING WE WERE ON -- THEN REALIZED OUR MISTAKE.
