Narrative:
Shortly after takeoff; at 4000 ft; we heard an explosive sound and then noticed we lost our right engine. I immediately leveled off and turned the airplane back around to land at ZZZ. The captain briefed the flight attendants and passenger and ran the checklist. I flew the airplane to a successful single engine landing. After we landed; crash fire rescue equipment looked over our airplane and reported no signs of fire. Later; at the gate; maintenance informed us that we experienced a failure of a turbine blade.
