Narrative:

We had just taken off when an oil strainer clog light came on. The QRH called for retarding the throttle of the affected engine. We waited for approximately 2 mins for the left oil strainer clog light to extinguish. When the light did not extinguish; we shut the engine down per procedure. We notified ATC; flight attendants; passenger; and company. We declared an emergency; returned; where a normal approach and landing were made. Crew; and ATC performed their duties in a professional manner. A safe; overweight; 132000 pound; landing was accomplished.
