Narrative:
Just prior to reaching our second fix on track a; we were contacted by an air carrier Y aircraft to contact scottish center. We did and were told that had been try to get a hold of us for some time. We never heard them. They asked for an explanation and having not heard them; I am afraid; did have a good explanation. There were multiple similar call signs also in the area. We were at crossing altitude and speed with our clearance. We were then told to contact shanwick where we got out HF frequencys and continued. No traffic or altitude issues were noted. I did make the mistake of not having the volume on the second radio with 121.5 turned up loud enough. So when they tried to reach us there; we could not hear them. There were several calls from the back of the airplane and perhaps with all this we missed 2 calls.
