Narrative:
Issued climb to air carrier X abcc thinking I was issuing the climb to air carrier Y aebc. Air carrier Y aebc had no traffic. Air carrier X abcc was vertically separated from 2 other aircraft at FL340 and FL350 until the climb was begun lateral separation was then lost. Hearing 'air carrier X abcc' and then saying 'air carrier X abcc' while looking at; traffic searching; and amending the data block of air carrier Y aebc. This is a mistake made due to assumptions/subsequent actions that continued with those mistaken assumption/failure to associate spoken and written numbers.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ZAB CTLR EXPERIENCED OPERROR AT APPROX FL340 WHEN CLBING AN ACR THROUGH AN OCCUPIED ALT.
Narrative: ISSUED CLB TO ACR X ABCC THINKING I WAS ISSUING THE CLB TO ACR Y AEBC. ACR Y AEBC HAD NO TFC. ACR X ABCC WAS VERTICALLY SEPARATED FROM 2 OTHER ACFT AT FL340 AND FL350 UNTIL THE CLB WAS BEGUN LATERAL SEPARATION WAS THEN LOST. HEARING 'ACR X ABCC' AND THEN SAYING 'ACR X ABCC' WHILE LOOKING AT; TFC SEARCHING; AND AMENDING THE DATA BLOCK OF ACR Y AEBC. THIS IS A MISTAKE MADE DUE TO ASSUMPTIONS/SUBSEQUENT ACTIONS THAT CONTINUED WITH THOSE MISTAKEN ASSUMPTION/FAILURE TO ASSOCIATE SPOKEN AND WRITTEN NUMBERS.
