Narrative:
This was the last leg of a ric-lga-buf-lga trip. We just completed a 1 hour situation in lga. We looked at the monitors in the crew room and confirmed that our plane was parked on gate and was going to richmond. The monitors in the terminal and above the gate also confirmed this. Upon reaching the gate; the gate agent printed out our release prior to handing it to us. The first officer and I did a release brief in the jetway and flew back to richmond. The flight was uneventful. Upon arriving at my house; I noticed a missed call from dispatch. I called them back and was told that 'there were rumors of some airplanes being in the wrong spot.' he wanted to confirm the tail number on the release but lga would not answer the phones. My first officer was still at the airport and ran out to the airplane in an attempt to find the release but it was already cleaned. I am filling out this report because I cannot confirm 100% that the tail number was verified during our release brief.
