Narrative:
Prior to departing tulsa; we noticed dfw was landing north flow. Therefore set up the box for north flow. In descent ATC advised us 310 KTS or greater #1 for approach; you're leading the pack. Then we were given karla at 11000 ft. Continuing in descent ATC handed us to approach control; we checked in and asked if speeds were needed on the approach. He advised us that he did at this time. While deviating around a cell we noticed on the new ATIS that we just had a chance to pull up; they changed airport to a south flow. Just prior to karla now we noticed we were descending thru 11900 ft over karla. We were then given right turn 280 degrees and descend to 5000 ft. We slowed to 250 KTS and continued our descent to 5000 ft. ATC did not mention anything abnormal about our altitude and approach and handed us off to tower; approach and landing to runway 17L uneventful.

Title: MD80 FAILS TO CROSS KARLA AT 11000 FT MSL AS CLRED ON ARR TO DFW.
Narrative: PRIOR TO DEPARTING TULSA; WE NOTICED DFW WAS LNDG N FLOW. THEREFORE SET UP THE BOX FOR N FLOW. IN DSCNT ATC ADVISED US 310 KTS OR GREATER #1 FOR APCH; YOU'RE LEADING THE PACK. THEN WE WERE GIVEN KARLA AT 11000 FT. CONTINUING IN DSCNT ATC HANDED US TO APCH CTL; WE CHKED IN AND ASKED IF SPEEDS WERE NEEDED ON THE APCH. HE ADVISED US THAT HE DID AT THIS TIME. WHILE DEVIATING AROUND A CELL WE NOTICED ON THE NEW ATIS THAT WE JUST HAD A CHANCE TO PULL UP; THEY CHANGED ARPT TO A S FLOW. JUST PRIOR TO KARLA NOW WE NOTICED WE WERE DSNDING THRU 11900 FT OVER KARLA. WE WERE THEN GIVEN R TURN 280 DEGS AND DSND TO 5000 FT. WE SLOWED TO 250 KTS AND CONTINUED OUR DSCNT TO 5000 FT. ATC DID NOT MENTION ANYTHING ABNORMAL ABOUT OUR ALT AND APCH AND HANDED US OFF TO TWR; APCH AND LNDG TO RWY 17L UNEVENTFUL.
