Narrative:
At gle I taxied to the south end of the runway (17-35) and pulled off the taxiway (other traffic in area) onto a paved area appearing to be the run-up area. After the run-up and checklist; I announced on the unicom that I was pulling onto runway 35 for takeoff to the north. The wind was calm. I proceeded to taxi across the supposed run-up area toward the marked taxiway; and part-way across this area; I hit the runway identify sign; metal and plastic; on a concrete pad. I was taxiing in an easterly direction; directly into the blinding morning sun. The plane came to an immediate stop; and realizing I had hit something; I shut down all system and got out of the plane. The plane had come to rest atop the concrete pad; with the propeller striking the sign and subsequently the pavement. The front strut and wheel were folded back at about a 45 degree angle. My wife was a passenger with me; and no injuries occurred due to the slower taxi speed.
