Narrative:

My designated examiner and I were turning from base to final when another C172 skyhawk flew over us and cut in front of us. The other aircraft missed us by no more than 100 ft vertically and 100 ft horizontally. As it turns out the other C172 overshot his approach for the parallel runway. I was operating on 1 tower frequency while the other C172 was on the other frequency. When I saw the other C172 overtake me I pulled back on the throttle and input the controls to evade to the right enough to not be an issue for that C172; or any other traffic in the pattern. The C172 did meander over to his cleared runway and I did a routine landing. Possible issues: split tower frequencys; lack of airport environment familiarity by other pilot; lack of TA. When I told the tower that I had been cut off it seemed that they didn't even know what I meant.

Title: PLT REPORTS AN NMAC AT APA WHEN THE OTHER ACFT OVERSHOT FINAL APCH COURSE ON A PARALLEL RWY AT 600 FT. BOTH ACFT ON DIFFERENT ATC FREQS.

Narrative: MY DESIGNATED EXAMINER AND I WERE TURNING FROM BASE TO FINAL WHEN ANOTHER C172 SKYHAWK FLEW OVER US AND CUT IN FRONT OF US. THE OTHER ACFT MISSED US BY NO MORE THAN 100 FT VERTICALLY AND 100 FT HORIZONTALLY. AS IT TURNS OUT THE OTHER C172 OVERSHOT HIS APCH FOR THE PARALLEL RWY. I WAS OPERATING ON 1 TWR FREQ WHILE THE OTHER C172 WAS ON THE OTHER FREQ. WHEN I SAW THE OTHER C172 OVERTAKE ME I PULLED BACK ON THE THROTTLE AND INPUT THE CTLS TO EVADE TO THE R ENOUGH TO NOT BE AN ISSUE FOR THAT C172; OR ANY OTHER TFC IN THE PATTERN. THE C172 DID MEANDER OVER TO HIS CLRED RWY AND I DID A ROUTINE LNDG. POSSIBLE ISSUES: SPLIT TWR FREQS; LACK OF ARPT ENVIRONMENT FAMILIARITY BY OTHER PLT; LACK OF TA. WHEN I TOLD THE TWR THAT I HAD BEEN CUT OFF IT SEEMED THAT THEY DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT I MEANT.
