Narrative:
After takeoff; the nose landing gear would not retract. Declared an emergency and returned to ZZZ for an overweight landing. No obvious damage noted postflt. Supplemental information from acn 788728: we accomplished the 'unable to raise landing gear handle after takeoff' abnormal procedure; but the gear handle could not be raised.

Title: AN MD80 NOSE GEAR FAILED TO RETRACT AFTER TAKEOFF. THE FLT CREW DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND RETURNED TO DEP ARPT.
Narrative: AFTER TKOF; THE NOSE LNDG GEAR WOULD NOT RETRACT. DECLARED AN EMER AND RETURNED TO ZZZ FOR AN OVERWT LNDG. NO OBVIOUS DAMAGE NOTED POSTFLT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 788728: WE ACCOMPLISHED THE 'UNABLE TO RAISE LNDG GEAR HANDLE AFTER TKOF' ABNORMAL PROC; BUT THE GEAR HANDLE COULD NOT BE RAISED.
