Narrative:

On initial takeoff from ZZZ the nose gear failed to retract. The gear handle was returned to the down position and the nose gear extended normally and showed a down indication (green light). The captain flew the aircraft to a visual approach and landing back at ZZZ. An emergency was declared due to an overweight landing. Supplemental information from acn 794506: the nose gear indicator showed red; and the gear and/or gear door did not fully retract based on the noise we could hear from that area.
