Narrative:

Flew same aircraft into ZZZZ the previous evening. During landing captain noticed birds pass over his eyebrow window and made an E6 entry reporting a possible bird strike. Upon arrival at the airport the next morning we learned our scheduled flight was canceled and we were to perform a 1-TIME ferry of the same jet to ZZZ due to the right engine having sustained foreign object damage (FOD). Captain and I inspected the engine and noticed a fan blade that was damaged and had been blended by ZZZZ maintenance overnight. We also noticed what appeared to be additional damage to another first stage fan blade and the acoustic liner. The damage appeared to be caused by hard FOD. Captain began extensive telephone consultations with dispatch; maintenance control and the chief pilot. Additional photographs of the engine were sent to maintenance headquarters of the damage we noticed. Captain related to me that maintenance wanted to perform a borescope inspection in ZZZ to determine if there was internal damage to the engine. If that was the case; captain felt it should be borescoped prior to flight or be ferried by maintenance check/test pilots; not us and our flight attendants. Captain refused the airplane.

CAPT RELATED TO ME THAT MAINT WANTED TO PERFORM A BORESCOPE INSPECTION IN ZZZ TO DETERMINE IF THERE WAS INTERNAL DAMAGE TO THE ENG. IF THAT WAS THE CASE; CAPT FELT IT SHOULD BE BORESCOPED PRIOR TO FLT OR BE FERRIED BY MAINT CHK/TEST PLTS; NOT US AND OUR FLT ATTENDANTS. CAPT REFUSED THE AIRPLANE.
