Narrative:
We were in the published hold at S88 and had received clearance for the approach while we were at 4000'. We advised center that we were going to go around in the hold one more time to drop some altitude. On our turn outbnd center advised us of traffic just north of the iae (watson) at 2200' and heading the same direction as were (170 degree). We were descending through 2500' and turning inbound when the traffic suddenly appeared at out 11 O'clock position and just below. I took the controls of the aircraft and climbed to the right above him. (We were also encoder equipped) at that time center asked us if we saw the traffic. I said yes. He asked how close was the proximity of the two aircraft and I told him 500' vertical and 1000' horizontal. We then continued with our turn inbound on the hold. I was sitting in the right seat of the small aircraft and I believe that the other aircraft was in the blind spot off of the students left shoulder.

WE THEN CONTINUED WITH OUR TURN INBND ON THE HOLD. I WAS SITTING IN THE RIGHT SEAT OF THE SMA AND I BELIEVE THAT THE OTHER ACFT WAS IN THE BLIND SPOT OFF OF THE STUDENTS LEFT SHOULDER.
