Narrative:
Unintentionally departed with a cas message. After takeoff; tower reported seeing smoke trailing the aircraft. Turned downwind. Discussed options; and made a left hand traffic pattern; to overfly the departure runway. Tower reported that we were still trailing smoke. Made a left turn again; downwind; declared an emergency; and requested landing clearance and to have fire vehicles meet us at the end of the runway. An uneventful landing was made. ZZZ tower; and fire/rescue personnel did an outstanding job.
